For those of you who want to witness the magical midnight sun, we recommend travelling far up north to Abisko. That is where the magnificent 425 kilometre long Kungsleden (the King’s trail) starts.

Lapland’s highway for hikers. Start south from Nikkaluokta and hike into the Kebnekaise range, the country’s highest alpine region. From Kebnekaise’s peak you are treated to an never-ending panoramic view over a mountain landscape that makes up around a tenth of Sweden’s total area! South of Kebnekaise is the start of the Kaitum mountains, Sarek and Padjelanta. Kaitum is famous around the world for its fantastic game fish.Furthest south you will find the Arjeplog mountain region, including Ammarnäs and Hemavan, two beautiful mountain villages that are connected by the Kungsleden trail. Along the 5 day journey between these two villages you’ll discover Vindel Mountain’s “Golden Gate”, an archipelago with five suspension- and two plank bridges.Along the entire Kungsleden trail there are strategically placed mountain cabins for overnight accommodation, food preparation and provisions, as well as two youth hostels.
The King’s Trail (Kungsleden) is the legendary 425 km-long hiking, trekking and skiing trail that winds its way from Abisko in the north to Hemmavan in the south, taking in the high alpine terrain and Kebnekaise, Sweden’s highest mountain. Abisko is one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights.
Sweden is a ‘dream landscape’ for hiking and trekking, from the untamed wilderness of Sarek National Park in the far north, to the enchanted forest and lakes of the south.
