Christmas Greetings from Gothenburg

Gothenburg is putting on her Xmas finest just for you. The glittering Christmas illuminations stretch from Liseberg amusement park, past Götaplatsen, along Avenyn, the city’s main boulevard, and all the way to down to the city’s harbour. The façade of Konstmuseet meanwhile will be used as giant film screen with accompanying music and the Xmas markets, shops, hotels and restaurants of Göteborg are awaiting your arrival.

You shouldn’t disappoint her as Gothenburg puts on a fantastic Xmas party. Take Liseberg amusement park for example. Here is Sweden’s largest Xmas market with some 80 stalls selling everything from candlesticks to “Christmassy” jumpers which as we all know Dad wants for Christmas, as well as Christmas shows, ice-skating and tastes of festive delicacies like pickled herring, ham, mulled wine and mountains of candy. You can also see Father Christmas at Polketten and tell him what you want for. Did we mention that Liseberg will be illuminated by 5,000,000 Christmas lights and you should not miss it.

The city also hosts Xmas markets at Nordstan, Haga, Kronhuset, Gustav Adolfs Torg and Tjolöholms Slott (palace).

Otherwise, Gothenburg has great shopping streets such as Kungsgatan and Vallgatan and the trendy Magasingatan that crosses them, with its younger focus and cool fashion boutiques. Nordstan, near Central Station, is Sweden’s largest shopping mall and you will find all the big name Swedish retailers here. Elsewhere around the city there are many great shopping opportunities to choose from.
