Malmö is famous for its many beautiful parks and vast green areas. Slottsparken (The Castle Park), opened in 1900, and the adjacent, and older, Kungsparken (King´s Park) are popular green areas with generous open spaces and numerous beautiful ponds.

There is also an interesting and quite advanced ecological garden, located on one of the old castle´s bastions. The large Pildammsparken is another popular park area for walks and picnics, offering a number of attractions such as Queen Silvia´s Rose Garden, The Garden of Senses, Crown Princess Margareta´s Flower Avenue and many beautiful ”garden rooms”. There are several charming cafés and restaurants in and around the park. Trädgårdspaletten (”The Garden Palette”) in the Kulladal district in the southern part of the city is a combined botanical and commercial garden, with a large tropical greenhouse featuring turtle ponds, parrots and other tropical birds.
Malmö is the only major city in Northern Europe that boasts its very own downtown beach – and a very fine one at that, having been granted the international ”Blue Flag” award for its fine clear water. It’s the classic Ribbersborg beach, 2.5 kilometres long and frequently referred to as ”Scandinavia`s Copacabana”.
For pop, rock and all other genres of contemporary music, Malmö is a lively and exciting scene. Classic KB and recently opened Debaser are two first-rate permanent clubs for local, Swedish and international bands, and there are also many nightclubs and bars that stage concerts and performances with hot acts in various contemporary musical styles.
