Travel tips

Gothenburg awaits

Gothenburg is a people’s city. Dotted with traditional wood buildings and cobbled streets, Gothenburg is full of hip pavement-side cafés, unique art exhibitions, shops selling fair-trade and antiques, a larger than life amusement park, and infinite nature trails. But, that’s not all! Gothenburg is also known for the warm and welcoming nature of its people, who will ensure you always feel at home! This city is constantly changing and is shaped by everyone who lives here and all those who visit.

Gothenburg: The city and its people

The streets of Gothenburg feature local trams which is a great way to get around the city. But, if you’re in for something more personal, cycling is also hugely popular in Gothenburg. Simply rent a bike and make your way through the city’s network of cycle paths and explore the city like a local. The tourist boats that run along the city’s canals also make for a fun experience allowing you to explore the city from a different perspective.

The one thing that really stands out in Gothenburg is the people. Call it the warmth and thoughtfulness or just plain talkativeness – there is something about the people of Gothenburg that makes you feel happy and welcome here, whether it’s for a day or a lifetime.

The Edible Country

If food is your religion, then Gothenburg is the place to be! In Gothenburg, you will be able to experience a completely unique set of restaurants, beginning from Michelin starred eateries to reasonably priced food-trucks and local delicacies like the Halv Special (the Swedish variation of a hotdog) and the Kanelbullar (cinnamon buns).

If you’re up for something more adventurous, just take a boat tour over to the Gothenburg Archipelagos and embark on a seafood safari, where you can fish for your own meal, and enjoy it on the boat itself!

Be it the daily fika or commuting via trams and boats, everything is done differently here!

The Art and design Hub

The city has several museums, including the Gothenburg City Museum, the fascinating Museum of World Culture, as well as two museums charting the city’s nautical history: the Maritiman, which displays 19 full-size ships and boats, and the Maritime Museum. Gothenburg is also home to one of the best art museums in Scandinavia, which is situated in Götaplatsen.

Last, but not the least, the city’s vibrant music scene ensures there’s always a concert or gig to attend right around the corner. Right from free concerts to festivals like the Way Out West, music festivals are a year round affair!

The Swedish summer is festival season. Way Out West, or WOW, is the most popular music festival with about 30,000 visitors – more wouldn't fit into the Gothenburg park of Slottsskogen, where it takes place in August.
