Things to do

Feeling romantic? Skåne is the perfect place for that weekend away.

Honeymoon, silver wedding or a love trip for two? Skåne in the south of Sweden has a lot to offer if you’re in search of memorable moments. The beauty and variety of the landscape, convenient transport system and the abundance of things to do and see means you can pack a short stay with lots of romantic experiences.

Sunset tango in Västra Hamnen

Imagine dancing by the sea to dramatic tango tunes as the sun sets on the horizon. In Malmö there are often seaside tango soirées in the Western Harbour. Cool down with a dip in the sea or with some Italian ice cream from the cafés that line the harbour.

Tandem cycling on the island of Ven

The small, idyllic island of Ven in the middle of Öresund between Skåne and Denmark is a classic biking destination. Rent a tandem bike cycle through cosy villages, past quaint cottages, hills, meadows and dramatic cliffs that drop straight into the sea. If you arrive by boat from Landskrona just follow the stream of people up the hill to the bike rental facility with the characteristic yellow bicycles.

See Skåne from above

Why not go Jules Verne for a couple of hours and take to the skies in a hot air balloon? It’s a thrilling experience and there are a number of companies arranging these fairytale trips. / (in Swedish)

Hallongården, raspberries and romance

This mecca for berry-lovers is between the cities of Malmö and Trelleborg. Pick your own raspberries, have coffee and raspberry-pastries in the raspberry-café and shop jams and marmalades in the small farm boutique.

Pottery for two

Creative couple? Then maybe pottery-making is for you. At Wallåkra Pottery Factory you can book guided pottery sessions in beautiful and inspiring surroundings. The pottery is in an old stone house in the middle of a nature reserve with a restaurant serving delicious food and a pottery shop on site.

Enjoy a picnic al fresco

With so much open space, so many lakes, so many miles of beaches to sit on, why not enjoy a picnic? But food from a supermarket, or stop by one of the many farm shops that stock fantastic delicacies already for your stop under the sun – or even under the stars. And you can camp almost anywhere, either by your own piece of lake, or on one of the many campsites that offer excellent facilities.

Spa & Wellness in Skåne

When you’re in romantic mode, what better than chilling in a spa? There are several high-class spa resorts here, each resort with its own profile and specialities. It’s time to pack your bags and prepare yourself to be spoilt, Skåne style.

Ystad Saltsjöbad, The Salt Creek Spa - This spa has won more awards than any other resort in Sweden. On the beach in Ystad on the southern coast of Skåne, it offers a variety of exclusive, organic treatments that will slim, tone, moisturize and invigorate you.

Choose between standard double rooms to the luxurious grand suite with its own outdoor jacuzzi and roof terrace. The restaurant serves exquisite meals inspired by East Coast American food and aesthetics.

Hotel Skansen, a historic resort - Hotell Skansen in Båstad, north western Skåne, is a fashionable seaside summer resort famous for its annual tennis tournament that features world-class players like Serena Williams. Today the old, charming hotel is a popular resort for conferences and á la carte guests looking for culinary experiences and spa sensations.

The spa offers a range of treatments for your face and body. The contrast between the cold dips in the sea at the traditional Kallbadhus, the luxurious atmosphere and the modern treatments makes this a spa experience to remember.

Torekov Hotel, pools with a view - This Spa Hotel in Torekov close to the resort of Båstad is an exclusive summer resort lying on the western slope of the Bjäre peninsula. It’s the place to be if you’re into golf. There are 17 golf courses in just a 20-minute drive.

Book golf packages through the hotel, and after a day at the course, unwind in the hotel’s hot Japanese outdoor pools, or sip on a glass of wine in front of the fire in the cosy lounge. The steam saunas and relaxation area have panorama windows facing the sky and the sea.

Lodge Resort, on top of a cliff - Perched 167 metres above sea level on top of the Romele Ridge, this hotel is built in New England style. The fireplace, cast iron stoves and architecture combined with the impressive view of the surrounding landscape create a relaxed, peaceful atmosphere. This is a small, intimate hotel, offering different accommodation options. Choose between twin rooms, a suite or independent cabins.

A Swedish wood-fired sauna and warm outdoor jacuzzis on the large wooden deck make for a unique spa experience. Conveniently located just 15 minutes from Lund, the restaurant serves food with exciting flavours inspired by the local nature. Organic skincare products are for sale in the hotel shop and used in all treatments.

Karlaby Kro, amidst the fields and meadows - Once a traditional farm, Karlaby Kro exudes peace and tranquillity. Guests can enjoy treatments and eat in the local restaurant. The former stables house 12 x 4 metre indoor pool and sauna. Choose from a range of treatments. The restaurant serves a three-course meal every evening.

Hotell Mossbylund, close to the sea - Mossbylund is by the beach close to Ystad in eastern Skåne.  Sit back in the jacuzzi after different treatments with a beer and enjoy the view and take in the serene atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot if you want a cosy, laid-back place to relax right next to the beach.

In the summer you can swim in the sea and the rest of the year you can bathe in the pool area, with indoor pool, a sauna and an outdoor hot tub.

Stay in a castle

Full of fairytale charms, beautiful gardens, works of art, corridors full of age-old intrigue, and the odd resident ghost, you shouldn’t miss the magic of castle living. Here in Skåne it won’t cost you a King’s ransom for your visit either.

Here are four castles where you can live the life of Lords and Ladies, just for a while:

Bäckaskog Castle - The favoured country residence of King Karl 15th, the castle lies between two sparkling lakes just northeast of Kristianstad. Enjoy some royal relaxation while the chefs roast wild boar and deer over the open fire. If you’re feeling active, serve up a few games of tennis before dinner, ride bikes in the enchanting surroundings or canoe on the lakes. Then off to bed in your suite for a right royal sleep. Beautiful outdoor area in the summer.

Öresnäs Castle - Like champagne? Love golf? Then Örenäs Castle is the perfect place for you. An oasis of greenery on the coast of Skåne, it’s the perfect retreat from the hectic pace of the city and an inspiring environment for both weekends and creative meetings. Located 15 km south of Helsingborg, the castle offers you magnificent views towards Denmark and the island of Ven.

Sample their grandiose multi-course menus, all cooked with style and sophistication, and use the castle as the perfect base for your activities and visits. Stay over in modern equipped rooms, go for a round of mini-golf in the grounds, take a walk in the park, or go fishing right next door. Paradise just came a little closer.

Häckeberga Castle - Right on the lakeside in one of Skåne’s prettiest nature reserves, Häckeberga Castle is the place to relax your pace. Built in 1875 in late renaissance style, the castle is surrounded by woods that are home to rare birds of prey and plenty of fallow deer.

Quiet and peaceful, yet just 30 minutes from Malmö, 20 minutes to Lund, and 15 minutes to Malmö Airport, it’s the right location to spoil yourself with luxurious bedrooms and personal service. The castle is worth visiting just to savour the fantastic food with mouth-watering flavours prepared by the chefs using locally grown produce.

Kronovalls Vinslott, the wine castle of Kronowall - If wine is on your mind, then don’t miss the home of the Åkesson wine family in the middle of a beech forest in beautiful Österlen. Train your palette on some of the tens of thousands of bottles of Swedish-made sparkling stored just eight metres below your table, and tuck into some fabulous dishes made from local ingredients. Then spend the night in a room furnished from the 18th and 19th century named after your favourite grape variety.

Don’t miss its wine festival, or take in one of the outdoor concerts that feature some of the best Swedish and international artists every summer.

Svaneholm castle – a romantic row - The castle of Svaneholm is in a beautiful park by Lake Svaneholm outside Skurup in southern Skåne. For a Jane Austen-esque romantic vibe, rent a rowing boat to fish in the lake or glide peacefully through the water, admiring the beautiful surroundings and the old castle. Finish your day with coffee in the castle café. (in Swedish)

Romantic road trip? Or prefer public transport?

Getting here is easy – and getting around is even easier. Copenhagen airport is just a 20-minute train ride from Malmö and has flights to almost everywhere. Once you’re here, there is an extensive network of punctual public transport that takes you where you want to go. And you can bring your car or rent one. There’s an extensive ferry network connecting from several harbours in Poland, Germany and Denmark.
