IKEA Museum in Älmhult
Located in what was the very first IKEA store, opened in 1958, this museum will be intriguing for interior design fans from around the world. The permanent exhibition – The Story of IKEA – traces the history of the company and the unique concept behind it all. In addition to the main exhibition, there are several temporary showcases.
Hungry for more? Make sure to stop by the restaurant for some real Swedish meatballs served with all the trimmings; mashed potatoes, lingonberries, pickled cucumbers and cream sauce. (They also have plant, veggie and chicken balls on the menu.)
Don’t miss the gift shop where you can find books, candy and sometimes even vintage IKEA products that you will not find anywhere else. A great way to top off a memorable experience.
Across the parking lot from the museum, you’ll find the IKEA Hotell featuring rooms of all sizes, from cosy cabin rooms to family rooms. The hotel opened in 1964 and has served as a social hub in Älmhult ever since, striving to make it feel like home for every guest. Local rail and bus services make it easy to reach the museum that is open every day, year-round.
IKEA Museum, Småland
IKEA Museum 2021. It opened in 2016, in the very same building as the first ever IKEA store. Since there was an ordinary IKEA store in the building until 2012 the restoration of the facade is pervasive. It took four years but now it is the same as in 1958.
