Sweden's landscapes and cityscapes offer fantastic opportunities for drone photography, but it is important to be aware that certain areas are subject to restrictions. Popular attractions may be located close to protected sites ('skyddsobjekt'), particularly in central Stockholm and other urban areas. To avoid unintentionally flying in a restricted area, always check the official drone map before your flight.
Check where you can fly
To help visitors understand the rules and regulations for flying drones in Sweden, the Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen) provides a comprehensive guide to drone operations. It covers everything from flying in urban areas and near airports to national parks and along roads.
Before every flight, check Dronechart, the official drone map provided by LFV (the Swedish air navigation service provider). The map shows areas where drone operations may be restricted or require special consideration. It also includes temporary restrictions that may affect your flight.
Drone rules in Sweden
Sweden follows common European Union drone regulations. A drone weighing 250 grams or more, and/or equipped with a sensor capable of capturing personal data, such as a camera, requires a drone licence. Your Operator ID must be clearly displayed on the drone and be readable when the drone is on the ground.
For detailed guidance on registration, licences and drone operations, visit the Swedish Transport Agency website.
